Two of my favorite campgrounds are in this district, Money River
and Beckler River. Another popular campground that has been
heavily used by the public is Troublesome Creek Campground, but
recent storms have washed out the access to this area and the
nearby San Juan Campground so that as of the summer of 2008
these campgrounds were indeed “troubled” and are not expected to
be open. Using the campgrounds as your headquarters for
visiting the scenery is a great idea. The district boasts of
having over 150 Cascade lakes with some great whitewater rafting
coming down the hundreds of miles of rivers and streams.
The Steven’s Pass Historic
District is accessible by the Iron Goat Trail as are many other
scenic mountain and lake vistas from 140 miles of trails. The
district office is located only a few miles from the campgrounds
outside the little mountain town of Skykomish on Highway 2 which
starts from I-5 just north of Seattle, and is a good place to
stop to check on trail maps and perhaps let them know where you
will be if you run into trouble. |
