This area just outside of Skykomish is known for its trains and its train history. Just a few miles above the campgrounds is the site of the best known avalanche train incident which happened around the turn of the century. Many feet of snow can fall each day here making travel over the summit difficult for many winter travelers even by train. However, during the springtime the snow quickly disappears and the campgrounds are ready to go by Memorial Weekend or even mid May. Money Creek is the most popular of the three, but it is right next to the tracks, so you need to be someone who is not bothered by the clackity-clack of the train travel. In many sites of roar of the river going past drowns out the train sounds anyway. The historic town of Skykomish is worth visiting and the nearby mountains draw in many an adventurous hiker.
