Why Camp Here
Excelsior has two very large group campsites on the Nooksack River along the north side of Mt. Baker and about 5 miles due south of the Canadian border. This is the largest group campground in the Mt. Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest. If the whole campground were taken it would be ideal for large scout gatherings or multi church youth gatherings. There are two sites. The first site (A) is somewhat smaller and less appealing. This one is priced less per night because it is smaller and has less privacy than B. The second is site B which is larger and has more solitude since one must pass through the first group site to get to the second.

Good to Know
The wildlife is plentiful, so it is important to remember to keep food put away while sleeping or out hiking so that you don’t attract bears or other unwanted guests.

If the gate is locked please visit the Douglas Fir Campground host on your way into the campground. The Douglas Fir host normally checks in on the campground from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, otherwise an attendant will be visiting the campground two to four times per day.

RV use rating is a 4 out of 5
