| Mt. Baker Hwy 542 Area Campgrounds: | Douglas Fir | Excelsior | Silver Fir |
Baker Hwy 542 heads out from Bellingham, WA just south of the Canadian border and travels along to Mt. Baker Mountain where winter time snow reaches incredible depths. During the summer time though the winter moisture means towering firs and spruces mixed with rushing rivers. The area has three very popular campgrounds. The most popular and the nicest is Douglas Fir. Large RVs will have no trouble here, but the river side sites are also very popular with those in tents. Excelsior is our largest group campground. It is split into two areas. The smaller site in the front is less expensive and lacks the privacy of the larger site in the rear. Both sites may be reserved together as well. Silver Fir is slightly more rustic than Douglas Fir, but you have a better chance of getting a site here at the last minute and several sites are available right on the river as well. Both Douglas Fir and Silver Fir have day use group sites that may be reserved for a group picnic. Please be aware though that over night use in the group sites IS NOT ALLOWED. You must stay overnight in the designated camping sites if you are planning on staying overnight.
