The Forest extends 140 miles from the south along the edge of Mt. Rainier National Park to the north along the Canadian border in the west side of the Cascade Mountain of Washington. Hoodoo Recreation manages over thirty-five of the Forest’s best campgrounds with over 850 campsites located in four districts and off six major roads heading up from the area starting south of Tacoma to north of Bellingham. The Forest’s 800+ mountain lakes, vast forests, home to more glaciers and snow fields than any other National Forest south of Canada, and easy access to a large population base help make the MBS National Forest one of the most visited national regions in the country. The Forest’s headquarters is in Everett, but it is also served by four district offices and two visitor’s centers. Hoodoo Recreation is proud to have been chosen to serve as the Forest’s recreation arm for the organized campgrounds of this very popular area. Because of all the movies and photos shot in this Forest many in the country whether they realize it or not think of the MBS Forest as typifying the logging and mining history of the far west, and why not? Although most of the mining has run its course without making anyone very rich, the vast forests of the Cascades are more abundant than ever. Recent environmental efforts have saved millions of acres of old growth rain forests with their giant Douglas Firs and Western Red Cedars in large tracts of Wilderness areas and in and around the campgrounds themselves. While it is still possible to see clear cut areas in private forests, most of the forests these days are being selectively cut with overall management of the wildlife and plantlife in mind and not just the main commercial trees. It has cost the taxpayer millions in the loss of commercial lumber and jobs, but potentially saved the country millions by keeping the forests and ecology healthy | ||||||||||||||||
