Why Camp Here
Chief Paulina Horse Campground is located in the Newberry Crater area close to the town of Bend, OR. This is the only horse campground in this lava flow area and provides the horse enthusiast a great way to sight see over the whole monument area.

Good to Know
Campers should come prepared since there is NO DRINKING WATER, but there is a water pump for the live stock. There is no cell phone coverage at the campground, but there are a couple of resorts nearby for supplies and restaurants.

There is an RV dump station ($10) near the entry of Paulina Lake Campground.

Be aware there normally is a fee that is charged when you come up to the Newberry Monument area – this fee is separate from your campsite fees.

We may have a host in the campground from about Memorial Weekend to Labor Day Weekend otherwise an attendant will be on site several times each day.

PLEASE, horse campgrounds are meant for those with horses, it can be dangerous to have people who are unfamiliar with horse camped nearby. Also horse campgrounds are limited and there are plenty of other campgrounds where those without horses can stay. Please be courteous.

Horse Campers may only use Certified Weed-Seed-Free Hay (it has a unique color twine) when you stay at any of our USFS Horse Campgrounds.  For more information please call your local USFS Ranger station or click on the link here. Hay is available through Matt Cyrus at 541-771-4980 17430 Hwy 126 between Sisters and Redmond.

Site Description
The spurs are large with double or quadruple corrals. The roads are unpaved as are the spurs, which are all back-in but generally ample for most situations.

Directions
From Bend travel 24 miles south on Highway 97, or from La Pine travel 5 miles north on Highway 97. From Highway 97, travel about 14 miles east on Road 21 until you reach the entrance to the campground.
