After over a month of disappointing weather news at Hoodoo and all over the NW mountain ranges, it looks like the forecast for the next few days will finally allow Hoodoo to have its season opening. Please continue to watch our Mountain Conditions page and our Forecast page along with the camera views of the mountain and parking lot to give you up to date news of Hoodoo Conditions. We try to make it so that you can determine the conditions at Hoodoo as quickly as we can. The plan as of Tuesday morning is to open Thursday morning. I believe if the forecast is even near correct, we should be open by Friday for sure, but we believe that we will have a Thursday opening. Employees should have been contacted by their area leaders. If you are an employee who has not been contacted please contact an appropriate person at the mountain.
Skiers and boarders remember we are working on a new ticket system this year. You might allow yourself a few extra minutes to get your cards and daily or season lift tickets. This system is meant to make your whole experience at Hoodoo faster with fewer lines or wasted energy, but that may not be true the first time since this is a new experience for all of us. So an early arrival may decrease any frustration.
I am also concerned about parking this first weekend. We continue to try to make parking easier, but since we expect a lot of people who will want to enjoy the snow this weekend, arriving early on Saturday morning especially will be helpful for you. We open at 9 am so arriving around 8:30 should work well for those who want to get tracks all day long.
I continued to work out (walk) almost everyday during the offseason so that at the age of 77, I will still have the energy needed to work in the parking lot this season. However, after spending many hours in the lot last year, I figured that age had finally caught up with me. I expect to be out there greeting you this first weekend and we will see how long I can continue. This year after this terrible start, I will try to be available to you to help with any beginning problems. However, remember Matthew McFarland, our GM, runs the mountain and has been doing a great job for many years now. Even though I still own Hoodoo Ski Area, I am Matthew’s backup when it comes to making decisions and so I may not be able to give you immediate answers to some questions. Regardless, we all are committed to making your experience at Hoodoo as pleasant as possible while at the same time we are trying to keep Hoodoo going for the long term.
As always, I hope to see you on the slopes,
– Chuck
