Matthew’s Mountain Memo

Guessing it would be icy I took my short skis out for a couple runs this morning on the groomers and had a lot of fun. I was wrong, the snow was great and not icy at all. My skis were quick, nimble, and made me feel like a slalom racing star, but any skis would have been great. I think after having so many great powder days all in a row and such a  [ Read More ]

I will admit that I am not much of a football watcher. I live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country, so the call of the great outdoors has always kept me from a whole lot of television watching. However, I wanted to congratulate the University of Oregon Ducks on their 35-17 win over Kansas St in the Fiesta Bowl. If you haven’t made it up to Hoodoo during the past week  [ Read More ]

My kids came up to the mountain today. As they headed out for some Hoodoo night skiing with their mom (I had to stay back and work in the lodge), I started thinking about the winters that have gone by over the past 10 years since my first child was born. Each winter when my kids come up to play in the snow a moment seems to arise when I feel such great pride and  [ Read More ]

Merry Christmas everyone, Santa Claus was very nice to us this year, not only did he come up and ski with us for the last five days but he also brought us 5″ of new light dry powder this morning. All the powder hounds will be in heaven as the skiing is great and nearly untracked. If that isn’t enough Santa gave me some mints this morning as well (maybe I needed them). He is  [ Read More ]

So here we sit at the beginning of a big storm wondering if it will bring all the snow we need to open the top of the hill and I can’t be more excited about the 41″ that is forecast. We have had a great opening so far and been blessed with great early conditions and what seems like 1-2″ of new snow every day that makes the skiing great. Every trip down the mountain  [ Read More ]

We were blessed with a bunch of snow this last weekend, but nowhere near what was forecast. We were hoping for the 52 inches predicted by our friends at NOAA, but got 17 inches of beautiful base that will help get us open this weekend. This was perfect snowman snow, which is the best to have as a base layer, so we are happy. At this time, the groomers are on the hill and getting  [ Read More ]

We are all wondering the same thing right now which is ‘When is it going to snow?’ We currently have zero-to-five inches, depending on where you are standing, and we need about 3 feet more to run the snowcats and get the hill open. Sadly, looking at the forecast I only see about 6″ of new in the next 5 days, but we will gladly take it and keep hoping for more. This is always  [ Read More ]

Hodag is open and 4″ of new have graced us!! While Hodag info is not really a big deal it was looking like a wind closure all night so we were pleasently suprised to have the wind die down so we could open it and have all of you access the great new snow. Presidents Lincoln and Washington must have wanted it this way:) Matthew
