Well, we have certainly been on a weather rollercoaster this season! People keep saying to me they feel bad for us and that we just can’t catch a break. I disagree. While it has been a terrible year for skiing at Hoodoo and the Pacific Northwest in general, we have had a few days that were phenomenal, a wonderful Winter Carnival and lots of supportive customers. In that respect, we have been catching breaks all  [ Read Post ]

Well here is the good news and the other as well. As you can tell from our Hoodoo Web Cams, the pond in the bowl (which some like to call “Lake Hoodoo”) is subsiding, but not quite as fast as we want. If we are lucky, the transformer that supplies power to the Green, Manzanita and Easy Rider lifts will be out of the water (or, at least, the water will be low enough) and  [ Read Post ]

It’s a little ironic that we got the biggest storm of the year this weekend as we finally got enough snow to just open Manzanita and then WHAM… all the season’s snow in a couple days. It has been awesome in more ways than one. We have been plowing and grooming around the clock just to keep up, but the skiing was fantastic. We’ve loved having so many loyal Hoodoo guests come up and visit.  [ Read Post ]

Well the forecasts were wrong again, but this time in our favor. No, the drought is not over by any means but while we were forecast to get no snow this weekend we actually got a few inches a day, starting Thursday. I was up at Hoodoo on Friday night and toured around on my Nordic skis to check conditions everywhere. From what I saw I was doubtful we would be open this weekend, but  [ Read Post ]

Sadly, this last storm left us worse off than we were before it hit. The local Bend newspaper just ran a story that we were going to meet and decide on the opening of Hoodoo today. I guess that is newsworthy, but truthfully, we come here daily, check the conditions, check the forecast and make decisions. The last two weeks have been spent mining snow from the trees and various pockets where the wind deposits  [ Read Post ]

Here I sit looking out the window at the lack of snow, full of hope for the weekend storm and wonder what it will bring. We have a huge pond that surrounds the Manzanita lift, which is about 3.5 feet deep. There is roughly 6-8 inches of snow on the runs, with even less at the tops of Ed and Green. The forecast is calling for 16-26” of snow through the weekend. We will either  [ Read Post ]

Guessing it would be icy I took my short skis out for a couple runs this morning on the groomers and had a lot of fun. I was wrong, the snow was great and not icy at all. My skis were quick, nimble, and made me feel like a slalom racing star, but any skis would have been great. I think after having so many great powder days all in a row and such a  [ Read Post ]

I will admit that I am not much of a football watcher. I live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country, so the call of the great outdoors has always kept me from a whole lot of television watching. However, I wanted to congratulate the University of Oregon Ducks on their 35-17 win over Kansas St in the Fiesta Bowl. If you haven’t made it up to Hoodoo during the past week  [ Read Post ]
