THE OAKRIDGE AREA starts at the upper end of Lookout Reservoir at Hampton Campground. This is a small area that is mostly meant to be for RVs, but it has a boat ramp to the reservoir. Oakridge is about a 45 minute drive from Eugene on Hwy 58 heading toward Klamath Falls and Eastern Oregon. The lower campgrounds are between Oakridge and Eugene and the upper campgrounds are between Oakridge and the summit area where Waldo Lake is located.

Past Hampton Campground is Black Canyon Campground. This area is a large mostly first come, first serve campground (as are all of the USFS campsites in this area). You can almost always find a nice site here nearby or on the Willamette River. You will find our hosts friendly and helpful. Further along just past Oakridge is the very popular Hills Creek Reservoir Area. The reservoir is great for swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing or wakeboarding. There are three boat landings available. The best is in Packard Creek Campground. Another is easily reachable toward the top of the reservoir at Bingham Boat Ramp. This ramp is located near the Sand Prairie Campground. As you go further up the Middle Fork of the Willamette past the reservoir you will find additional enjoyable sunny camping with fewer neighbors and quieter surroundings.

About 5 miles east of Oakridge on the Salmon Creek is a great campground complete with a swimming hole and a small falls. Get there early for a site on the river, but any site is great. Finally as you drive on Hwy 58 toward the top of the mountains you will find Blue Pool Campground. The Salt Creek River roars past this site and is an enjoyable place to stop. Most of this area opens early in the season, but check our Openings Page for details.
