On the shore of Lake Billy Chinook at 2000 feet elevation, Monty features 32 camping sites, all first come, first served. Monty is found after driving about five miles past Perry South, one of Oregon's USFS most popular campgrounds. Actually there is not much to recommend this campground except that you will rarely find others camping here. This is a seldom used campground partially because of the bumpy difficult road that you have to travel to get here, but mostly because Perry South, with its more convenient location is a much nicer campground. Campers traveling here should be careful of the five mile road. It is mostly one lane and the steep bank goes down quickly to the lake about 100 feet below.

There are two older style pit toilets found in the center of the campground and no water. Water is available at Perry South. While the campground is on the water at the junction of the Metolius River and Lake Billy Chinook, the river runs fast here and is not appropriate for swimming or boating. It is a good area, however, to put or take out a kayak.
