Islet
will be open from July 1 to September 29, 2008 weather permitting. |
Nestled under the towering firs
and pines on the north edge of Waldo Lake, Islet is my
vision of heaven. My favorite time to camp there is when it first opens while the snow is still on the ground, but the temperatures are warm. Soon thereafter the mosquitoes take over and for about the next month they can be real pests unless the wind is up.
As the summer goes by, Waldo Lake keeps getting more popular with the peak popularity being
in August. But like other high lake areas, the camping gets even better after this time because the weather is still nice, the bugs are gone and so are the other campers. Many families like the campgrounds on Waldo lake because of the added feature of flush toilets although they
are being replaced with composting toilets which will help assure that the lake stays one of the most pristine in the world. lslet is the least crowded of the three Waldo Campgrounds, but it is as nice so this might be the one to check out first if you want to camp on the lake.
With 3 toilet stations and like all
of Waldo, a pressurized drinking water system. We expect the water system to be working by July 4 or
earlier. In the early season our hosts live in the North Waldo campground and
later toward the end of July we also have hosts in Shadow Bay.
