Esswine
is a group site located on the north side of the Mountain Loop Road about
6 miles east of the Verlot
Public Service Center on the South
Fork of the Stillaguamish River. While single sites along the Loop cost from $16
to $20, plus extra vehicle fees, this campground costs $65 per night. It gives
you great privacy and is ideal for tenters mixed with RVs. There are four tent
pads and four picnic tables plus two separate camping areas around two different
firepits. There is room for about 25 campers. To get in, visit the host or attendant at Gold Basin as you head out
to the campground. The host will have a gate key. The mountain view is
spectacular but the campground has a relatively low elevation at about 1,650
feet. There is a CXT vault toilet, but no water so bring your own supplies.
The campground
is open from May 22 to Sept 29, 2008.
