South Twin is a desired
campground and is often full during the weekends in July and August. The sites
are large and right on the South Twin Lake which is a mostly a fishing lake with
no fast motor boats allowed. The water system is pressurized and there are some
flush toilets which might add to the popularity. There is a resort next door
with showers and a small grocery store. The campground is about 15 minutes south
of Bend between Hwy 97 and the Cascade Lake Hwy in the mountains. It is easy to
get to for last minute campers from the Bend/Redmond/La Pine area. It is also a
popular campground for those coming from the Valley or from out of state as
well. The campground opens early and stays open late to accommodate fishing
enthusiasts.
There is an RV dump station just after the entry of the campground toward Gull
Point
with a fee of $10 (sorry septic dumping costs have gone through the roof)
No motorized boating on South
Twin.
We expect to have
a host here from about Memorial Weekend to Labor Day Weekend otherwise the
campground is watched over by an
attendant from another campground who will visit from two to four times per day.
