Big River is a unique place in that it is located close to a somewhat suburban part of south Bend. Its location of the Deschutes River especially makes it a great place for the locals to have a family outing on the river. It has easy access just off the road. The sites are large, but there is nothing that would draw someone from far off to this site since it isn't nearly as spectacular as some of the other campgrounds nearby, but for Bend area residents, it is the perfect place to get away from it all without having to travel very far. Quite often you will have much of the campground to yourself. It is a perfect place to launch a canoe, kayak or tube to travel down the Deschutes River. In addition for those who would like a spot for a family reunion or scout overnighter, there is a group site across the road from the main campground which could easily hold a group of up to 40 campers.

    This is an non-hosted campground which means that it is watched over by an attendant from another campground who will visit from two to four times per day.
