Lower Canyon Creek is a very popular local
campground because very few people know how to get there. It has campsites right
on the creek with large rock ledges to lie on to feel the sun. Some people like
to put their kayaks in here to head to the Metolius. It is really the
privacy that makes this campground so nice. The area is well treed and the creek
gives it a lot of beauty. There are not many sites, but they are all located
close to the water. Most of the sites are large enough for RVs, but most are not
ideal RV sites. The closest way to get there is to take Hwy 20 to USFS 12 near
Suttle Lake. Go north for about 3 miles and then turn east on USFS 1425 before
the Jack Creek turnoff. After about 2 miles turn north on 1420 and proceed for
another mile until you see the Lower Canyon Creek sign on your right. The
campground is about 1 mile in on this road. You can also get here by taking the
turnoff to Camp Sherman from Hwy 20 and then continue straight on 1420 when you
get to Camp Sherman.
This is normally an non-hosted
campground, but an attendant will visit two to four times per day.
