Clear
Creek is the town of Darrington's local campground. Here you can camp within a
short bicycle ride (about 4 miles) to the Burger Barn for a milkshake, burger,
and onion rings or even hike to USFS district offices
for more information. (Yes, you can drive too). Perhaps the main reason someone
would want to camp here besides visiting the town of Darrington is to see the
nearby mountain peaks and glaciers. The Sauk River is only steps away and this
is a perfect place to start a tour of the Mountain Loop Road. Most people visit
this area by staying at the other end of the Loop near Gold Basin Campground
which might be all the more reason to stay at this end of the Loop instead.
Darrington is only about a half hour away from Arlington so it is an easy drive
to get away from it all. And if gambling is your thing, Clear Creek is a great
place to stay for cheap when you lose your money at the Arlington area casino.
The campground
is open from May 15 to Sept 8, 2008.
Host is in the
campground from about late Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend.
